UPL denounces the “railway isolation” of Salamanca after simulating a trip to Barcelona

Union of the Leonese People (UPL) has denounced the “unsustainable situation” of the Salamanca railway connections after publishing a video in which they simulate the real trip to Barcelona, which they describe as a “logistical odyssey” caused by institutional abandonment.

The tour begins in Béjar at 5:30 in the morning by car due to the lack of railway and the scarcity of public transport in the area, remembering the closure of the railway line in 1985, which, according to UPL, has kept the region isolated for decades.

During the journey, the party also denounces the “deplorable state” of the A-66 highway, with sections limited to 80 km/h due to its deterioration, a situation that they attribute to the lack of maintenance by the Ministry of Transport.

Already in Salamanca, they criticize the poor coordination of railway connections, with long waits or very tight transfer times that make it difficult to complete the trip without incident. Finally, the route is completed through Madrid, which, according to UPL, shows the dependence on the capital for access to high speed.

The Leonese party assures that this reality “is not a specific case, but the daily life of thousands of people from Salamanca,” and accuses the Government of Spain of “condemning the west to isolation and lack of opportunities.”

For this reason, they demand the recovery of decent railway connections, the urgent improvement of the A-66 and A-62 highways and the implementation of effective public transport alternatives in regions such as Béjar.
