The face of tremendous pain that Morante de la Puebla could not hide when the bullfighters took him to the infirmary has its explanation in ⊠the shocking medical report that Dr. Octavio Mulet Zayas signed after operating on him in the Real Maestranza de CaballerĂa arena in Seville. The skilled cigar maker, according to the medical report, underwent surgery for a goring described as âvery seriousâ that he suffered, in the fourth bull of the show, in the âposterior anal margin with a trajectory of about 10 centimeters, partially injuring anal sphincter muscles and with a 1.5 centimeter perforation on the posterior surface of the rectum. The wound is washed and the rectal wall and sphincter apparatus are repaired. An aspiration drainage is applied in the postanal and retrorectal space. Prognosis: very serious«.

MAESTRANZA LAUNCHES
Morante de la Puebla was caught by the bull Clandestino, from the Salamanca ranch of Hermanos GarcĂa JimĂ©nez when he greeted him with his cape. Without fixity the bull and without yet fully using himself, the master was overwhelmed in an untimely wave that he could not control, leaving him the bullfighter from La Puebla caught by the left gluteus in some distressing and very violent passages. Already on the ground, Hermanos GarcĂa JimĂ©nezâs bull passed over him, trampling on the right-handerâs back. Lying on the ground, Morante quickly touched the injured area with his hand.
Morante de la Puebla, who had already cut off an ear from the first bull of the afternoon after another brilliant performance with both cape and muleta, had hung a new âno ticketsâ sign at the La Maestranza ticket officeswhere he returned after last Thursdayâs memorable performance that is now part of bullfighting history. In this celebration, the tenth of the April Fair in Seville, he shared the bill with Borja JimĂ©nez (who cut off the ear of two of the four bulls he stocked) and TomĂĄs Rufo (who left empty-handed).
