The 42nd edition of the Castilla y León Awards that are being held on the morning of this Tuesday, April 21 at the Miguel Delibes Cultural Center in Valladolid have begun with a warm ovation and the symbolic sending of a ‘smile to heaven’, in tribute to María Caamaño, the eternal “Football Warrior Princess”, who died last Thursday, April 13 in Salamanca.
The memory of María has received the first applause at this renowned gala of the Board, where the “courage” and “bravery” of this girl of only 13 years old, victim of Ewing’s Sarcoma, has been vindicated. The image of the awarding of the medal to the minor by the president of the Government of Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has been projected on the screen a year ago when she was awarded the Castilla y León Prize for Human and Social Values 2024.
