This Friday afternoon, the Pontifical University of Salamanca (UPSA) presented the first Institute of Sacred Music in Spain. A creation that, according to rector Santiago García-Jalón, responds “to the desire to offer a stable and specialized space for the cultivation of sacred musical heritage, both from its historical dimension and from its contemporary projection.”
The objective of this new institute, he said, is “to contribute to cultural and liturgical enrichment, as well as to the comprehensive training of musicians, researchers and specialists.” Its birth, in the words of the rector, stems from initiatives such as the promotion of the Tomás Luis de Victoria Choir and the Pontifical Sonora Music Series.
