On this Wednesday morning, the Councilor for Family and Equal Opportunities, Miryam Rodríguez, and the president of the Association of Friends of the Sahrawi People of Salamanca (AMPUSASA), Ángeles Giménez, presented a new edition of the ‘Vacation in Peace’ program.
The City Council and AMPUSASA have called on Salamanca families to participate in the temporary reception of Sahrawi children, facilitating the minors’ absence from the Tindouf refugee camps for a few months due to the extreme weather conditions that occur in summer. Likewise, these children are offered the possibility of learning about a new culture, language and customs, as well as receiving medical check-ups.
According to Ángeles, the goal for 2026 is to bring 20 minors in a program that has been going on for 50 years. Furthermore, Giménez has stated that in 2008 the number of host families began to decrease, since in this period there were 62 host families.
To be part of this program, you can send the application form until February 26 through the website https://ampusasa.es/ and the email sa_jaima@yahoo.es, as well as request more information by calling 630 639 568 and 607 749 100.
The scheduled date for the arrival of the minors is established between the last days of June and the first days of July. “We have to continue emphasizing getting more families so that more children come,” Ángeles concluded.
