The Government’s anti-crisis plan comes into force this Sunday

The Official State Gazette (BOE) published this Saturday the two anti-crisis decrees approved by the Government to deal with the impact of the war in Iran, a package of measures that will mobilize some 5,000 million euros and that will come into force this Sunday, as reported by Europa Press.

The plan is articulated in two royal decree laws: one with general economic measures and another focused on housing. Both must be validated by the Congress of Deputies on March 26.

Among the main economic measures, the reduction of VAT from 21% to 10% on fuels, electricity and gas stands out, as well as the freezing of the maximum price of butane and propane. In addition, the 80% bonus on electricity tolls for large industry is recovered.

As reported by Europa Press, the decree also contemplates the temporary suspension of the tax on electricity production (IVPEE), the reduction of the electricity tax to the minimum of 0.5% and a reduction to the minimum permitted level of the hydrocarbon tax.

On the other hand, direct aid of 20 cents per liter of professional diesel is established for transporters, farmers, ranchers and fishermen, as well as a prohibition on dismissals for economic reasons linked to the conflict.

Likewise, the Executive strengthens control over the margins of energy companies to avoid abusive price increases.

And in terms of housing, the second decree includes the freezing of rents through the automatic extension of contracts that end in 2026 and 2027, for a maximum of two years. This measure could benefit more than one million contracts and some 2.7 million people.
