The Carbajosa Carbasket Basketball Club participated on February 7 and 8 in the fourth edition of Baskets Against Childhood Cancer, a solidarity initiative promoted by the Unoentrecienmil Foundation on the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day (February 15).
Throughout the weekend, the club’s teams transformed their official matches into a solidarity action, converting each point scored into a gesture of support for childhood cancer research. Thanks to the involvement of players, coaches, families and fans, the club managed to raise more than 700 euros, which will be allocated entirely to research projects to accelerate the cure of childhood cancer.
Every year 1,600 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed in Spain. Initiatives like this show that sport can also be a tool for raising awareness and social commitment.
From the board of directors of the Carbajosa Carbasket Basketball Club they highlight that “joining Baskets Against Childhood Cancer is a way of giving a sense of solidarity to our passion for basketball. We feel part of a national movement that unites sport and research to accompany the children who fight every day against this disease.”
The campaign, which last year mobilized 409 clubs from all over Spain and raised 226,000 euros, has the support of the Spanish Basketball Federation and numerous regional federations, consolidating itself as one of the largest solidarity actions for grassroots basketball in our country.
