The Villamayor City Council has presented the programming for Las Candelas 2026, the first major festive event of the year in the municipality, which will be held from Friday, January 30 to Monday, February 2. For four days, residents will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities that combine tradition, sport, music and proposals for all audiences, with a marked solidarity character.
The celebrations will begin on Friday, January 30, with the III Horseshoe Throwing Contest, in the Plaza de la ConstituciĂłn, and will continue at night with a pop-rock tribute by the group Effect Retroactive in the tent of the fairgrounds.
One of the central events will arrive on Saturday, January 31, with the traditional solidarity meal, which will be held from 1:30 p.m. in the tent of the fairgrounds and will be enlivened by the brass band La Clave. In this edition, the proceeds will be allocated entirely to the “Siempre Fiel” Animal Protection Agency, reinforcing the solidarity nature of one of the most participatory events of the holidays.
As a novelty, this year two types of solidarity tickets will be established: one aimed at the general public and another specific for clubs, associations and sports clubs registered in the municipal registries. The City Council reminds these groups of the importance of checking their correct registration in order to benefit from this measure, which seeks to improve organization and recognizes the fundamental role played by local associations in the development of the festivities.
During Saturday’s day, the VI Villamayor Cross Duathlon will also be held, and at night music will once again take center stage with a performance by the SMS Orchestra.
Sunday, February 1, will be especially dedicated to families, with children’s games in the Dori Ruano Pavilion and the performance of plays by the group of adults in the Antonio Gamoneda Auditorium.
The festivities will conclude on Monday, February 2, a local holiday, with the Holy Mass in honor of the Virgin in the Parish Church, accompanied by traditional dances from the Tresbolillo Association and a tasting of pasta and wine. That same day, the ceremony of presenting ribbons to the Quintos and Quintas will be held, a tradition deeply rooted in Villamayor that will continue until the patron saint festivities of the Virgen de los Remedios.
