They kill us and loot us for waging their holy war

The Iranian people residing in Salamanca have taken to the streets to protest for their rights and for real democracy in Iran. A battle that has been going on for years and where great heights have been reached in recent weeks with massive protests in the streets for the “freedom and a dignified life”.

On this occasion it was in the Plaza Mayor, in order to let passersby know that this fight cannot remain invisible, at the same time as joining forces in order to achieve basic rights.

Nilufar Saberi, Iranian activist, who arrived from Madrid to support the protests in Salamanca, has explained several points to understand what is happening in the Iranian country, where attempts are made to repress those who protest and where “They loot everything there is to wage their holy war”.

Saberi herself has stated that “people die from drinking contaminated water, they contaminate it themselves to kill the citizens”, indicating that the problem is on the rise and that anyone who goes against the regime will be “shot to death in the street itself.”

Likewise, he has indicated that “Salamanca has to wake up. Let’s confuse people’s faith with extremist ideology. “We need citizens to take to the streets in support of the Iranian people.”

In the same way, he has also put on the table another of the great problems that is occurring in Iran, the lack of resources in families that leads to “selling organs. You go to the hospital and see posters that kidneys, corneas, and more organs are sold. Where there is hunger, that is where the buying and selling of human beings begins.”

People have also been asked for another clear fact, that “do not confuse religion and faith with Islamist extremists”, making it clear that they are two very different points that must be distinguished.

As an example, he has also explained that hundreds of people, to buy bread and be able to eat this basic food, have to pay in installments due to the extreme poverty that is being experienced in the country. Furthermore, he has also made it clear that “50 years ago, if everything had continued as it was then, we would be one of the most advanced countries”.

To conclude, he explained in the Plaza Mayor the phrases of struggle and resilience, shouting “Long live free Iran”, “No to theocracy and yes to democracy” and that “this has to be the last battle that is fought, no matter what.”
