The Roman Bridge of Salamanca is ‘turned off’ for “a security issue”

Those who walk or drive near the Roman Bridge of Salamanca this Wednesday will notice that the monument lacks its usual lighting. This is “a security issue due to the rise in water levels,” municipal sources tell this medium.

The rains that the capital has experienced in recent days have led to an increase in the flow of the Tormes River and some light sources and the electrical system of the Roman Bridge are covered by water. “As a precaution, it has been turned off,” they reiterate.

When the Tormes returns to its usual channel, the system and wiring that serve to illuminate the monument will be reviewed. “Once it is verified that it has not been damaged and everything is correct, it will be turned on again,” they point out.

The Roman Bridge is not the only one that has been turned off for safety, since the flooding of the river also forced the lighting of the Juan Carlos I viaduct to be discontinued.
