“The future is something that largely depends on us”

The Pontifical University will host the 10th International Congress of Social Responsibility which will take place on February 10, 11 and 12, 2027. For the first time, it will be held outside Zaragoza, home of the event for the last twenty years. “We have tremendous hope. There is no better place than Salamanca, the cradle of wisdom,” said Juan José Almagro García.

The expert and ‘honoris causa’ of the UPSA has highlighted that Social Responsibility “it seems to be going backwards”so it is necessary to “give a boost from a practical point of view.” “The future is not what will happen tomorrow, but what we will do today,” he added. And a group of experts will reflect on that future starting this Thursday.

“We have the first meeting with members of the scientific committee and we will give our opinion what are going to be the topics that are going to occupy us in the central days”, has stated Nita Macía, director of the International Congress of Social Responsibility. Among the members are Adela Cortina and Ramón Jáuregui, the vice chancellor of international relations at UPSA, Luis Alberto Rivas, and the professor of Corporate Communication, Angel Losada.

“We want to take advantage of so many people with so much experience reflecting on what Salamanca should be like and what kind of economic crossroads it is in,” said the also president of the AECC in Salamanca, who considers it necessary to ask whether profitability is ethical instead of whether ethics is profitable: “The future is something that largely depends on us.”

Congress is open especially to “anyone in the business world who understands that making money is a means and not an end.” Also to workers from organizations or administrations responsible for public policies. “The photo that always comes out of this congress is that of a totally transversal society. We have had people from health, meat, tourism…”, acknowledged Nita Macía.
