The doctors’ strike leaves 630 consultations suspended in Salamanca despite the low follow-up

The strike day called by the Primary Medical Union at the national level has had a limited impact in the Salamanca health area.

As shown by the official data recorded by the Regional Health Management, and provided by the Junta de Castilla y León, during the morning shift the monitoring in the province was a mere 1.6%.

This figure, lower than the average for Castilla y León, indicates that, in absolute terms, only seven doctors from Salamanca decided to support the strike of a total of 2,190 personnel called for mobilization throughout the autonomous community.

Despite the low participation of professionals in Salamanca, the consequences for users have been more than noticeable: it is estimated that a total of 630 consultations have been suspended in the province.

Salamanca is thus positioned as the second most affected health area in the region in terms of interrupted healthcare activity, only behind León, where more than 2,000 appointments were cancelled.

However, trying to minimize the harm to citizens, the Administration has relocated the affected patients to new dates or to the agendas of other doctors who have not participated in the protest.

However, emergency care in basic health areas has remained operational at all times, covered by the established minimum services or, failing that, by family doctors who have continued with their usual activity.
