The Association “Citizens for the Defense of Heritage” has conveyed its concern about the Territorial Culture Service of the Government of Castilla y León in Salamanca. demolition works that develop inside the Convent of the Annunciationbetter known as The Ursulasin recent weeks and that are causing alarm among neighbors and passers-by.
The Association has requested access to all information related to the alleged project that is executed, as well as all the reports issued and agreements adopted; all this in order to be able to know directly about the Administration that is competent to protect he historical-artistic heritage declared, what is happening.
He Convent of the Annunciation is one of the Assets of Cultural Interest most outstanding of the city of Salamanca and, therefore, subject to the requirements that
establishes the legislation for this type of property. In the same way, subject to the Comprehensive Management Plan of Salamanca, to all the international letters and documents approved by UNESCO that affect it, to the severe decisions that the World Heritage Committee has taken regarding the city of Salamanca and to the Paris Convention on the basis of which this city was inscribed on the World Heritage List.
“Citizens for the Defense of Heritage” in 2022, alerted by the closure of the cloistered convents, organized a series of conferences in order to better understand the convent complexes of Salamanca, bringing the audience closer to the treasures they guard, highlighting the need to preserve them intact and promoting collective reflection on their future use which, in accordance with the will hitherto expressed by the religious orders (and which could not be another), must go through social and cultural uses.
