Full in the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca by the ‘therian’

This Friday afternoon left an unusual scene in the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca, where an alleged gathering of “therians”, young people who symbolically identify with animals and who have popularized meetings in different cities, generated expectation despite ultimately turning out to be false, despite people of all ages gathering in the Salamanca agora.

The call, spread through social networks this Friday, February 20, summoned the participants at 6:30 p.m., although from approximately 6:15 p.m. small groups of curious onlookers and teenagers could already be seen walking around the place.

The “therian” phenomenon, viral in Spain in recent months, is associated with young people who use masks, tails or other elements inspired by animals and who sometimes organize public meetings to socialize and make this emerging cultural identity visible. However, in Salamanca the event did not materialize as such and the organized presence of characterized participants was not recorded.

During the waiting time, municipal police officers remained in the area for preventive and supervisory work, without any relevant incidents or disturbances of public order. The atmosphere was mostly calm, with groups commenting on the failed call and others taking advantage of the influx to record content on social networks.

The most striking moment occurred at the end of the afternoon, when a bachelor party burst into the square with several members dressed in costumes simulating the arrest of Nicolás Maduro by the DEA. The scene caused improvised races of curious onlookers who came to watch the spectacle, thus closing a day marked by expectation and humor more than by the call itself.
