almost fifty initiatives achieved and intense parliamentary activity in the legislature

Union of the Leonese People (UPL) has taken stock of his activity in the Cortes of Castilla y León during the legislature that is now concluding, highlighting “intense work” in defense of the interests of the province of Salamanca. The Leonesistas have achieved the approval of almost fifty initiatives direct for the charro territory, ranging from health improvements and infrastructure to the protection of heritage and the promotion of strategic sectors.

Tangible achievements and ongoing projects

Among the most notable successes of the training are the provision of a new x-ray machine for the Béjar Hospitalthe repair of the SA-305 highway between Ledesma and the junction with the CL-517, and the urgent intervention in the Monleón wall to prevent its collapse. Likewise, UPL celebrates having guaranteed the maintenance of the teaching staff at the CEIP San Francisco in Ciudad Rodrigo and the signage of key tourist resources such as the Guadramiro Tower and the Zafrón dolmen.

Currently, several projects promoted by the party are in the execution phase, highlighting the creation of a Assisted Reproduction Unit at the Salamanca Hospitalthe new San José-El Zurguén health center and the creation of a Wild Animal Recovery Center (CRAS) in the province.

Pressure on the Central Government and the Board

UPL has not only directed its claims to the Board, but has also conveyed historic requests for Salamanca to the Government of Spain, such as the suppression of the Babilafuente level crossingthe electrification of the railway to Fuentes de Oñoro or the recovery of the railway corridor of the Silver Route.

However, Leonese supporters regret the rejection of projects that they consider “important”, such as the Salamanca East Roundthe conversion of the Ciudad Rodrigo Specialty Center into a regional hospital or the expansion of the capacity of the highway to Alba de Tormes (CL-510). In addition, they denounce the blockade by PP and VOX of firefighting measures and the lack of execution of approved agreements, such as the compensation fund for energy exporting provinces or the improvement of the guarantee mark of the Pedrosillo chickpea.

The 5% objective: key to the future of Salamanca

With about 800 questions registered and more than a thousand amendments to the budgets, UPL-Salamanca highly values the work carried out, but highlights a critical objective for the next regional elections: achieving the 5% of the votes at the regional level.

This threshold would allow the training to have own parliamentary groupwhich, as they explain, “would mean doubling the capacity to defend motions and being able to ask the President of the Board about Salamanca issues in each plenary session, and not every two as happens now.” After the 4.3% obtained in 2022, the party is confident that growth in the province will be decisive in increasing its political weight and capacity for influence in Valladolid.
