The Ministry of Health, through publication in the BOCyL to guarantee essential assistance during the next days of strike called by the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM). The new strikes, which affect all medical staff in group A1, will take place from April 27 to 30, continuing with specific calendars in the months of May and June.
The Administration justifies the establishment of these minimum services due to the serious impact accumulated after the strikes in February and March, which totaled more than 111,000 canceled consultations and the suspension of some 2,300 surgical interventions. Given the lack of agreement and the risk of collapse in waiting lists, the Board will prioritize urgent activities and those that have already suffered previous postponements or require patient travel.
In critical areas such as ICU, Oncology, Dialysis, Emergencies and Operating Rooms for invasive surgery, 100% of the activity will be maintained as they are considered non-delayable vital services. In Primary Care, coverage will be similar to that of a holiday, guaranteeing outpatient and home care that does not allow delay without risk to health.
In total, minimum services represent approximately a third of the workforce. The regulations recall that the right to health is a priority and warns that failure to provide these essential services by designated personnel will be considered illegal, under the corresponding legal responsibilities.
