Eight radio amateurs, recognized for their career in the Emergency Network

Eight radio amateurs have been recognized with diplomas from the National Emergency Radio Network (REMER) for their voluntary commitment and long career in this key Civil Protection service.

The Government’s deputy delegate, Rosa López Alonso, highlighted her “voluntary but very professional” work and underlined the importance of her work as essential support for communications in critical situations. As an example, he recalled the electricity blackout of April 28, 2025, which forced the REMER to be activated throughout the country.

The recognitions were granted based on the radio amateurs’ service history. Thus, Antonio Martínez Gallego and Luis Ortiz de Urbina Vicente received the diploma for their 40 years of dedication. For their part, Francisco Javier Fuentes Rodríguez, Félix Barrera Barrera, José Luis Renedo Herrero, Miguel Ángel Marcos Martín and María del Carmen Renedo Herrero were distinguished for 30 years of service. Finally, Miguel Sánchez Sánchez was recognized for his 25 years of commitment to REMER.

The REMER, created in the 80s and with more than 3,500 volunteers, has recently been reinforced as an essential resource within the National Civil Protection System. Its function is to guarantee communications in emergencies, coordinated by the General Directorate of Civil Protection and the National Center for Emergency Monitoring and Coordination (CENEM).
