200 pharmacists meet in Salamanca at the II Food and Pharmacy Conference of Castilla y León

This Saturday, March 14, Pharmacists from across the region had a very special event in Salamancamore specifically at the Arzobispo Fonseca College and Hospedería, where the II Food and Pharmacy Conference of Castilla y León. A meeting that has served to bring together health experts under the motto “Feed your third youth” and thus set the objective of the event on good eating and nutritional habits.

The entire program has been structured in five different information tablesin addition to another that will serve as a debate and one more that has been prepared as practical showcooking workshop and capture in first person the aspects related to nutrition in adulthood.

At the event they have been present María Engracia Pérez, president of the Council of Professional Colleges of Pharmacists of Castilla y León and the Official College of Pharmacists of Salamanca; María de la Vega Villar Gutiérrez, Councilor for Public Health of the Salamanca City Council; María Teresa Escribano Bailón, delegate of the Magnificent Rector for Postgraduate Studies and Continuing Training of USAL; Carmen del Campo Arroyo, national member of Pharmacists in Food of the General Council of Pharmacists of Spain; and Rebeca Cuenca Velasco, Nutrition member of the Council of Professional Colleges of Pharmacists of Castilla y León.

María Engracia was in charge of opening the event, addressing her words to all the pharmacists present in the place: “We want to consolidate this day as a space for scientific updating around food and its impact on healthto continue reinforcing the role of the pharmacist in promoting the health of citizens.” In this way, we want to show the closeness between pharmacy professionals and any ordinary person.

Among the different topics that will be discussed are: the role that antioxidants play in aging; the relationship between diet and cardiovascular health; the prevention of sarcopenia in older people or the most appropriate dietary and phytonutrient guidelines to minimize the symptoms associated with menopause and postmenopause. On the other hand, we also want to promote physical exercise practices, in addition to delving into the identification of chewing and dysphagia problems in older adults.

The president of the College of Pharmacists of Salamanca He has also highlighted the importance of rural pharmacies, not only dispensing drugs, but “playing an important role in health information, prevention and advice.”

Rebeca Cuenca Velasco, on the other hand, in the presentation indicated that “This stage of life is characterized by multiple physiological changes and often with the presence of chronic diseases. that involve the use of medications whose effect can be affected by diet. Therefore, knowing how they can influence will allow pharmacists to be able to transmit guidelines to our patients that increase their health,” giving even more importance to an issue that affects 27 percent of the region’s population, which is over 65 years of age.

On the other hand, they have also highlighted that the table will include debates around the “Importance of physical exercise and proper nutrition“, with professionals such as Teodora Ruano Sanchón, former professional cyclist; Alberto López Moreno, former professional footballer and sports doctor; Jorge Higinio Carretero García, former president of the Real Sociedad Deportiva Alcalá; and Juan Villuendas Gorrochategui, pharmacist and dietitian-nutritionist specialized in sports nutrition.

With the showcooking mentioned above, this day’s program will end by teaching attendees how to make different healthy recipes that improve day-to-day health in the elderly.
